MISSOURI WESTERN AMBASSADORS

Organization and Purpose

Established in 1975 as a special interest group, the Ambassadors of Missouri Western State University serve as a vital link between the college and the St. Joseph community. Through activities and programs, Ambassadors strive to increase the community's awareness of the educational, cultural and financial benefits that MWSU brings to the greater St. Joseph area.

Scholarship Programs

The greatest growth in college student populations is among adults who are pursuing educational goals which have been delayed or those who desire to seek new career opportunities. The Ambassadors have selected reentry or non-traditional students as its primary focus and established a scholarship fund specifically targeted for them.

Since 1989, over $198,000 has been awarded to students. During the past three years, $10,000 has been given each year. Our current fund raiser is "Night of the Ritz," an evening of dining and entertainment, which is held in the spring.

Membership Benefits

Membership in the MWSU Ambassadors offers numerous opportunities to each person, such as:

  • Personal Development
  • Community Networking
  • New Friendships

Most importantly, is the chance to learn more about the college and how to become instrumental in bridging the college and the community.

Meetings and Dues

Four general membership luncheon meetings are planned each year and are held to one hour to accommodate busy schedules. To learn more about the organization, with a minimal time investment, each member is encouraged to become involved in one of these five committees:

  • Bridging the College and the CommunityMembership
  • Scholarship
  • Resources
  • Publicity
  • Hospitality

Dues are $18 per year and are payable each September as the year corresponds with the academic calendar.
