WESTERN ANNOUNCES STUDENT HONORS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

St. Joseph, Mo. – Oct. 29, 2002 – Missouri Western State College recently announced the following honors and accomplishments of its students:

  • Missouri Western student Brandy Bray of Chillicothe, Mo., was the recipient of the 2002-03 Willis H. McCann Scholarship in psychology. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding senior psychology student and is named for the first chair of the Western department of psychology.
  • Sara Beth Kirkweg, a recent Missouri Western graduate, presented a paper co-authored by Dr. Phil Wann of the Missouri Western psychology department entitled “Conscientiousness and Self-Efficacy Predict Achievement in First-year College Students” at the convention of the American Psychological Society held in New Orleans.
  • The Western chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in psychology, received the Model Chapter Award from the Psi Chi National Council. During the past school year, students in the Western chapter were involved in a variety of community service activities that included the Psi Chi Sept. 11 fundraising project and several academic endeavors such as sponsoring campus lectures on psychology and presenting papers at the Midwestern Psychological Association convention in Chicago.
