WESTERN PRESENTS AN EVENING OF SONDHEIM
St. Joseph, Mo. - Sept. 14, 2011 - The music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim will be featured in a vocal scholarship benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 in the Potter Hall Theater at Missouri Western State University, presented by the department of music's vocal faculty and the student organization, Missouri Western Opera Singers.
The cost of admission for ''An Evening of Sondheim'' is $10 for adults and $5 for students, staff and faculty. Missouri Western Arts Society vouchers are accepted the night of the performance or call the box office at 816-271-4452 for reservations. All proceeds from the show will benefit vocal music scholarships.
Faculty participants include Shaun Agnew, Dr. David Benz, Dr. Susan Carter, Dr. Roger Hale and Leslie Thompson.
The Missouri Western Opera Singers include students Daniel Brooks, Kaitlyn Christian, Adrienne Collins, Rachel Cox, Ian Fast, Brandon Kusilek, Jonathan McClain, Kristen McLauchlen, Jacob Mills and Ashley Woods.
They will be performing selections from several Sondheim shows, including West Side Story, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Company: A Musical Comedy.
Additionally there will be a complimentary reception for Missouri Western Arts Society charter members on the stage following the performance. Society members are asked to RSVP by calling 816-271-5670 or email artssociety@missouriwestern.edu by Sept. 19.
