MURALS FOR MINDS WILL BEAUTIFY HUMBOLDT SCHOOL
St. Joseph, Mo. - March 24, 2011- The Student Government Association (SGA) at Missouri Western State University is asking the campus and the St. Joseph community to help paint murals at Humboldt Elementary School on Saturday, April 2.
''Murals for Minds'' is a project created last year by SGA to help connect Western's campus and the St. Joseph community with the city's schools. Volunteers will help transform Humboldts blank, bare walls into vibrant pieces of art. The murals will be designed and sketched on the walls by Western students, then volunteers will ''paint-by-numbers'' to finish the artwork.
More than 100 volunteers helped paint murals at Mark Twain Elementary School last spring in the first Murals for Minds project.
Humboldt Elementary School is located at 1520 N. Second. School doors will open at 9 a.m., and volunteers must be at the school by 10 a.m. Volunteers will receive a free lunch and a free T-shirt. Volunteers are required to sign a liability waiver form, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
