Christine Iverson
Christine Iverson is an adjunct
faculty member at Missouri Western
State University on oboe and
a woodwind instructor at the
Mount Conservatory of Music in
Atchison as well as continuing
to teach privately. She received
her Bachelor of Science degree
in Music Performance on oboe
and English horn from the University
of Wisconsin—River Falls;
Master of Divinity degree from
Wartburg Theological Seminary,
Dubuque, Iowa. She studied for
two years with Dr. Robert O’Boyle
at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln
and has completed master degree
work in musicology, composition
and choral music at Fort Hays
State University.
She has been teaching and performing
in ensembles and as guest soloist
for over 25 years. Her orchestral
work has included: St. Croix
Valley Symphony (principal oboe),
Dubuque Symphony (assistant principal
and English horn), Lincoln Civic
(principal), the Hays Symphony
(principal), MWSU Orchestra and
the St. Joseph Symphony. Other
ensemble work has included the
New Music Ensemble (Walker Art
Center and UW-RF) Riverbend Woodwind
Quintet, K-T Woodwind Trio, Griffon
Consort and various bands. She
has performed world premieres
of works by composers including:
John Cage, Henry Brandt, Pauline
Oliverous, William Albright,
Erik Stokes, Conrad DeJong, Terry
Riley and Steve Reich. A composer
in her own right, her most recent
commissions were the words and
music of the hymn, “When,
Lord, Did We See You Hungry” for
the 25th Anniversary of the World
Hunger Program of the Lutheran
Church and a musical setting
of Compline for the Central States
Synod Assembly. She is a featured
soloist (oboe and flute) on the
album Living in Kyros: The Global
Church Sings by the group Kyros
whom she has performed with for
several years at international
events.
