Jeffrey Hinton became the Director
of Bands at Missouri Western
State University in 1995. His
ensemble responsibilities include
directing the Golden Griffon
Marching Band and the MWSU Concert
Band. He is also conductor of
the Western Symphonic Winds,
which made their first appearance
since 1983 at Missouri Music
Educators Convention in January
of 2000. Mr. Hinton coordinates
the pep bands and teaches courses
in conducting and instrumental
music education. He has held
previous band directing positions
at Fort Hays State University
in Hays, Kansas, Truman State
University in Kirksville, Missouri,
and public schools in Missouri
including Union, Marshall, Wentzville,
and Fulton.
Mr. Hinton has been involved
on many occasions with the All-American
College Marching Band as an assistant
director. In the summer of 2000,
Mr. Hinton participated in the
College Band Directors National
Association conducting symposium
in Boulder, Colorado. Mr. Hinton
keeps a very active coast to
coast schedule as a clinician
and adjudicator for marching
band, concert band, and jazz
festivals. He also performs as
a single reed specialist, is
an active advocate for music
education in our schools, and
believes that preparing outstanding
young musicians to teach, as
well as to perform, is important
to the welfare of our society.
