Sharon Gray, soprano, is Director
of Vocal Studies at Missouri
Western State University. With
undergraduate degrees from St.
Joseph Junior College and Park
College, she earned a Master
of Music degree in vocal performance
pedagogy from the Conservatory
of Music, University of Missouri
in Kansas City.
Specializing in lieder and oratorio,
Ms. Gray is a frequent soloist
with the St. Joseph Symphony
and St. Joseph Community Chorus
and Chamber Choir. She is guest
soloist for many events in the
four state area and sought as
solo adjudicator as well. One
of her most recent performances
was as soprano soloist in the
Conception Abbey Basilica with
the St. Joseph Community Chorus,
MWSU Concert Chorale and St.
Joseph Symphony in a performance
of Mozart’s Solemn
Vespers and Poulenc’s Gloria.
Ms. Gray serves as State Chair
of Voice in the Missouri Music
Teachers Association, holds certification
with Missouri Music Teachers
Association and Music Teachers
National Association, is past
president of the Kansas City
area chapter of the National
Association of Teachers of Singing,
and served as faculty sponsor
of the Collegiate Chapter of
Music Educators National Conference
at Missouri Western for many
years. Other professional affiliations
include the Missouri Music Educators
Association, St. Joseph Area
Music Teachers Association, Mu
Phi Epsilon and Pi Kappa Lambda.
Additional study includes the
Institute of Performance Pedagogy
at Oberlin Conservatory and the
NATS workshop on contemporary
chamber opera and solo literature.
A member of the St. Joseph Symphony
Board of Directors, she serves
on the Artistic Advisement Committee.
She serves frequently as vocal
adjudicator in the four-state
area.
Minister of Music at the Zion
United Church of Christ, Ms.
Gray is also the Administrator
for the SJCC, past dean of the
St. Joseph Chapter of the American
Guild of Organists and cantors
for Temple Adath Joseph. She
was the Allied Arts Council 2001
Mayor’s Award recipient
for Individual Artist.
