Pianist David Bennett is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He was awarded a bachelors
degree summa cum laude in music and political science from Albion College. His
Master of Music degree in piano performance from Ball State University. Bennett
received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa with an
emphasis on piano performance and pedagogy. His teachers have included Herbert
Stessin, Anthosny Taffs, Pia Sebastiani, Pauline Lindsay, John Simms, and Kenneth
Amada.
Bennett has taught at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO,
since the fall of 1982. As a member of the Music Department he has taught class
piano, private piano, synthesizer techniques, piano pedagogy, and music history.
He is currently director of the Honors Program which serves the entire college.
He has also served as musical director for the college musicals and operettas
and directs the vocal and instrumental performing group, "Western Legacies."
As a pianist, Bennett has performed with orchestras, in solo recitals and
in chamber ensembles. He frequently performs with members of the Kansas City
Symphony and serves as the keyboardist for the St. Joseph Symphony.
David Bennett has been as active member of Music Teacher National Association
and served as National Chair for the College Artist Competition. He has served
the Missouri Music Teachers Association as Vice President, chair of piano,
district audition chair, and as a member of the Board of Director. He frequently
adjudicates in the four state area.
