ESSON SCHOLARSHIP

The Esson Scholarship, established by Douglas and Susan Esson, is a scholarship for students in departments of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and in the Department of Nursing.

Four scholarships (of at least $1,000 each) are to be awarded annually. This scholarship was started in the 1994-95 academic year. Awards will be given so that there are an equal number of junior and senior, male and female students. This scholarship requires that students have a minimum GPA of 3.2, and have declared a major in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or in the Department of Nursing. They must also be a full time student during the fall and spring semester of the 06-07 academic year.

The departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Nursing, may nominate a maximum of two students each. Academic departments are responsible for soliciting scholarship applications.

Students wishing to apply for these scholarships should write a letter of application to their major department (there is no formal application form). This letter should describe:

  • professional aspirations
  • extracurricular activities
  • any special financial considerations.

A copy of the student’s transcript and a “Student Financial Aid Report” (obtained with the assistance of the MWSU Financial Aid Office) must be submitted with the letter of application. Please be sure to include your local address for notification. Applications without transcripts and Student Financial Aid Report attached will not be considered.

Applications are to be turned in to the Chairperson of your “declared major” department. Be sure to check with this department for their deadline.
