Edit Keywords & Description

Keywords and descriptions are often forgotten in the course of making a website but they are a very important aspect of the web page. Keywords and Descriptions are unseen by the users but they are used by search engines (such as Google or Yahoo!) to identify which pages to return when a user enters a search. Without proper keywords and descriptions, users may not be able to find your page by using a popular search engine.

To edit keywords & descriptions:

  1. From the “Format” menu, select ‘Keywords and Description”
  2. In the “Keywords” text box, enter a number of words you think people might use to try and find your site. Also make your keywords match some of the actual words on the page - if you do this the page will score higher than one that doesn't. Separate each word with a comma and try to think of as many words and phrases as possible.
    • e.g. A page for Web Technology would use these keywords: web, information, technology, computer, assistance, computer help and so on
  3. In the “Description” text box, type in a few sentences to describe the content on your site. Try to be as descriptive as possible, but don’t write too much. Just 1-2 sentences is usually plenty and the search engine will cut off too many words anyway.
  4. When you are finished, click “OK”
  5. Click on “Publish” when you are finished editing.
