Recording Tips
These tips will apply toward VCRs or digital video
recording devices.
- Use new videotape stock, recycle it every so often. If
you’re recording one class, move past the first hour
of videotape to get use out of the entire tape.
- With videotape, keep track of how many times you’ve
recorded classes. That will help
you keep the quality of your recordings consistent.
- Start recording 3-5 minutes prior to class starting. Classes
aired live typically start at the top of each hour. Classes
that are replayed, with the exception of those replayed
in the Kansas City area, will start at the bottom or on
the half hour.
- Missouri Western begins our live and replayed classes
according to GPS/Satellite time. Make sure your
recorder’s
clock is accurate. If it’s not, you may want
to check it against time listed on a cable channel that
displays it’s time such as CNN.
- Instead of recording each class for 50 minutes, it would
be wise to record it for the entire hour it is aired. Classes
usually run longer than 50 minutes, this way you record
everything.
- Prior to the first day of classes, set your recorder to the appropriate time and channel.
Make sure it works ahead of time
will lessen problems.
- Missouri Western lists it’s programming of Channel
39 in St. Joseph, Missouri and Channel 97 in Atchison,
Kansas on their respective cable systems TV Guide Channels
as well as on the IMC’s website:
http://www.missouriwestern.edu/imc/ets/tvprogguide.html
- If all else fails with your recordings, there are always
copies of each class housed for the entire semester
in the MWSU Library for review. Tapes can be checked
out at the reserve desk and viewed in their media room.
- If you’re not confident that you will be able to
record the classes yourself, and if the instructor and
copyright permission allows, you may agree to lease the
course materials for the semester.
