The Heartland Conference is a university sponsored, student organized conference designed to provide growth opportunities to Resident Assistants, Student Advisors, Community Advisors, and those with similar job functions in the region. Delegates will leave the experience with new knowledge and skills that will benefit their institution as well as benefit themselves as a young professional. The Heartland Conference is dedicated to promoting the profession of Student Affairs by providing a professional conference atmosphere where attendants can connect with colleagues from across the region.
We have a lot of great entertainment ready to keep you busy Friday and Saturday nights while you are at the Conference. On Friday night, delegates will have many options to choose from. We will be having an 80s makeover area, where our expert stylists will be on hand to spray your hair pink and apply large amounts of makeup to your face. You can stretch your body during the biggest Twister game on the planet, and then twist your mind with human-sized Trivial Pursuit. Advisors, we know youll be tired from a long day of travelling, so you can relax during the Advisors Social!
Saturday night will be just as exciting. The traditional Swap Shop will be held, where you can trade great items from your school and get great items from other schools in return! While you are swapping, you can rock out to great 80s music coming from the dance. If these fun times get to be too much for you, we will have the MWSU bus to shuttle delegates back and forth from the campus to the hotel. At the hotel, the hospitality room will be available until Midnight for quiet socializing, and the indoor/outdoor pool area will also be ready and waiting for you!
This year, the Heartland Conference Staff has decided to help out the Friends of the Animal Shelter organization in St. Joseph, MO. This organization is dedicated to helping all of the animals in the citys shelter find good forever homes. We will be collecting cleaning supplies, puppy and kitten food, and cash donations, all to help our four-legged friends! The school with the most donations to our Philantrhopy project will win a totally awesome prize!

One of the most common questions asked when getting ready to go to a conference is What should I wear? To help relieve your stress, our staff has recommended delegates wear the following styles of dress for the conference: Friday--Casual wear; Saturday--Show off your school spirit!; Banquet--Business Casual; Dance--Dig out old 80s outfits! But extra spirit points will be awarded to schools who carry the 80s theme throughout their wardrobe!
During Opening Ceremonies each school will be asked to introduce themselves through a short roll call! Get your creative juices flowing to come up with the most creative song, cheer, skit or chant to show off your schools delegation! Extra spirit points will be awarded to delegations who use the 80s theme in their roll call!
The 80s were a high-energy decade. As a tribute to those energetic times, we are starting a new Heartland tradition: The Heartland Spirit Award! Delegations will be awarded spirit points based on their roll call, wardrobe, levels of participation, and overall school spirit. Conference Staff members will be watching and awarding points throughout the conference, and the winner will be announced during the Closing Ceremonies!
The Heartland 2009 Conference Delegates will be staying at the beautiful Stoney Creek Inn. Here are some of the details:
