What type of internship opportunities are available?
Most of our students are involved in a variety of practical learning experiences. Several students have received valuable training through internships with local museums as well as city and state governments. All students graduating with degrees in History with Teaching Certification participate in classroom experiences during their sophomore, junior, and senior years.
Why are internship programs important to the program?
Experience in the field is beneficial to each student’s education. Internships provide students with a valuable hands-on experience that is difficult to duplicate in the classroom.
Do students and faculty work on research projects?
Professors and students work together one-on-one in independent study projects. A recent example is the restoration and codification of the personal library holdings of the late Sheridan Logan, a local historian.
Do students present research findings at national conferences?
Students have the opportunity to enhance their education by attending professional conferences in their field. Several students have had the opportunity to present at the Missouri History Conference and the Undergraduate Historiographical & Geographical Research Symposium.
Have your faculty or students had work published?
All full-time faculty members in the department are published scholars. One student recently published an article in a scholarly journal in Philosophy.
Does your department offer any study abroad opportunities?
