Hands-on Experience
You will gain experience in applying
knowledge to technical procedures in health information management
and in developing professional attitudes for interacting with
other professionals in various healthcare facilities, organizations,
or agencies related to healthcare.
The entire Health Information Technology Program is designed
to give you the best possible learning experience. To aid
in that objective, you will need to make prior arrangements with
someone in a healthcare setting who is an experienced health information
professional, preferably a Registered Health Information Administrator
or Registered Health Information Technician, or someone who can
show by experience and training that they can provide a supervised
learning experience that meets the requirements/objectives of
the MWSU HIT online program.
The preceptor must be willing to enter into an agreement with
you and the MWSU HIT online program demonstrating their willingness
to work with you by doing the following:
- Providing adequate clinical facilities
for your hands-on experience,
- Assisting in the evaluation of
your learning and performance as
requested by the University, and,
- Retaining responsibility for professional
supervision as their presence and
program assignments affect the operation
of the facility and the department
of affiliation.
You will be responsible for professional liability coverage with
limits of not less than $1,000,000/$3,000,000 and provide a copy
of the cover letter to the University. Such insurance can
be obtained from AHIMA.
You will also be responsible for any
other requirements of the individual health care setting, such as,
background checks and health status verification. |
