A WORD FROM THE FESTIVAL DIRECTOR

Welcome to the 2nd Annual St. Joseph International Guitar Festival in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA - one of the largest and most progressive guitar festivals in the world! Following the tremendous success of last year’s festival with participants from the US, Europe and the Far East, we have expanded this year to include a competition with thousands of dollars of prize money and gifts donated by Audio Technica Microphones, LaBella String Company, Mel Bay Publications and Ransomed Productions.

In addition to the tremendous classes, concerts and career development seminars that we established last year, our competition promises to be the most original in the US: NO AGE LIMIT and NO REQUIRED PIECES.

We chose the unusual competition route since it opens the door to guitarists who are often excluded from competitions by age or their preference to specific music. Additionally, the final round of the competition will be open to the public and, along with the judges, the audience will have ballots and vote for the final three competitors.

This will give a more realistic aspect to the competition since, as we all know, our primary audience is usually NOT guitarists. This will help avoid the "narrow-minded" attitude that often exists in competitions.

You’ll find our festival one of the most progressive, informative and enjoyable in the US. Whether you come as a performer, auditor or simply take advantage of the concerts and seminars and "novelty classes" (such as "Cooking for Musicians," "Yoga for Musicians," "Playing Competition Hearts," etc. taught by the festival performers), the St. Joseph International Guitar Festival & Competition is an event that you’ll want to visit year after year.

Sincerely,
Anthony GLISE,
Festival Director
