General Information
The Masters of Applied
Arts in Integrated Media curriculum covers a wide
range of critical and technical issues that encompass the full
range of electronically mediated human experience. It has been
specifically conceived as an interdisciplinary laboratory where
students combine the traditional foundations of design and
visual communication, video
and music with a view towards developing fresh creative strategies.
The Master of Applied Arts in Integrated Media at Missouri Western
State University is a professional degree program focused on
producing technically sophisticated, artistically talented graduates
who are sought after by corporations, advertising agencies, graphic
design studios and by the growing electronic arts industry.
This is a program that represents a new interdisciplinary laboratory for the expression of ideas and community, including how we foment culture and business and build new archetypes for global interaction. The cross – media approach will redefine the arts’ education. While the courses taught encompass craft at its technical level, they also stress design, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and a fundamental awareness of theory and aesthetics. Students will partner on projects that merge communication ideas with communication strategies, utilizing the shared digital applications of art, music and video. Graduates will acquire diverse skill sets that will allow for creative problem – solving; students will be prepared to make presentations, manage projects and
advertising campaigns, understand and communicate inventive business strategies and work effectively with creative teams. The program cultivates an environment where students participate in collaborative projects that might involve video, sound, music, computer graphics, environmental and performance installations, interactivity and the Internet.
