External Scholarship Opportunities and Applications

Many opportunities for financial assistance exist through private sources. While you are encouraged to explore all opportunities available, Missouri Western cautions the use of outside agencies who charge a fee and "guarantee" financial assistance.  Many scholarship and financial aid scams do exist.  Applying for financial aid and scholarships should always be a FREE process.

Non-Major Specific iModules Educational Scholarship Program The iModules Educational Scholarship Program was established in March 2008.  The goal of this program is to reward students with a financial scholarship to assist them in their education pursuit.  This program is for prospective and current students in both the secondary (high school) and higher education (college or post graduate) field of study.
Non-Major Specific The John E. Kirschner Scholarship Fund The John E. Kirschner Fund, administered by the Commerce Trust Company, awards scholarships to students pursuing degrees in Ministry, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Medicine, Criminal Justice, and other similar fields. 
Non-Major Specific John Gyles Education Awards The John Gyles Education Awards are available to students in both Canada and the U.S.  Selected students will receive up to $3,000.
Non-Major Specific Kid's Chance Scholarship Program

To be eligible for the Kid's Chance Scholarship the student's parent must have sustained a serious injury or a fatality in a Missouri work related accident covered by workers’ compensation. The parent’s injury or death must be compensable under Missouri Workers’ Compensation Law, Chapter 287 RSMo.

The Missouri United Methodist Foundation presently provides awards through two college scholarship funds.  The Clint and Marge Hawkins Memorial Christian Education Fund for Youth consists of several awards of up to $750 each. The Judge Leah B. McCartney Scholarship Fund provides several scholarship awards of up to $1,750 each.

Non-Major Specific Peace Corps Volunteers Peace Corps has established partnerships with colleges and universities across the U.S. that offer academic credit and financial incentives to Volunteers during or after Peace Corps service.
Non-Major Specific Sallie Mae Fund's American Dream Scholarship

The Sallie Mae Fund sponsors several scholarship programs and supports hundreds of college scholarships. All of our programs are based on financial need, as The Fund seeks to bridge the dollar gap when no one else can. With an estimated $3 billion in private scholarships awarded nationally each year, The Fund aims to send the message that money is available to those who make the effort to apply. Since 2001, The Sallie Mae Fund has awarded more than $12.7 million in scholarships to more than 5,000 students.

Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis

(Interest Free Loan)

Interest free loan awards are made on a non-discriminatory basis to applicants of all ages who demonstrate financial need, satisfactory academic progress, and strong character. Residents of St. Louis city, St. Louis county, Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, St. Charles and Warren counties in Missouri and the Illinois counties of Clinton, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair are eligible to apply. Undergraduate, graduate, professional and vocational/technical degree-seeking students may borrow up to an annual maximum of $6,000, depending on program grade level. Students enjoy a 12-month grace period after graduation before beginning a five-year scheduled repayment plan.

Biology Northwest Missouri Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship

Missouri Wild Turkey Federation offers a $500 scholarship for a Missouri Western State University student majoring in a field related to the conservation of forest, fish or wildlife resources.

Business American Business Women's Association Scholarship The American Business Women's Association awards scholarships valued at up to $1,000.

The BrainTrack Business Scholarship is for students currently pursuing a business or management degree, BrainTrack's Business Schools Scholarship helps recipients to fund their education as they prepare for new or advanced careers in fields such as general management, marketing, advertising, sales, accounting, finance, management analysis and consulting, and more.

Business DegreeDirectory Academic Business Scholarship The Degree Directory Academic Business Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing bachelor level degrees related to business management, information systems management, marketing, finance, accounting, human resource management, and entrepreneurship.
Business Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Scholarship The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is pleased to offer scholarships to students pursuing degrees in accounting or finance.
Business Morocco Tour Scholarship

Morocco Tours offers scholarships to students in need of financial provision in undergraduate or graduate college programs, who are interested in pursuing bachelor or master level degrees related to business and have a desire to apply their learning in North Africa or the Middle East, an academic scholarship

Business Percy S. Lorie Scholarship The Percy S. Lorie Scholarship is sponsored by the Kansas City Chapter of CPCU and is intended to foster insurance education at the college level.   Two scholarships are awarded annually.  To be eligible, the student must have completed at least 60 hours of college level classes, major in insurance or insurance related field of study and have some insurance-specific work experience.

Business Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants LEAP Scholarship

The MSCPA awards scholarships to high school seniors (upon entrance to college) and college students pursuing accounting degrees.  Funding students’ pursuits of accounting degrees sends a clear message that accounting is a valued and critical profession.  LEAP scholarships also encourage students, who might not have otherwise considered accounting, to pursue accounting and CPA licensure.

The National Society of Accountants  offer scholarships for students majoring in accounting with a "B" or better grade point average. and currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university.

The John L. Carey Scholarship program provides financial assistance to liberal arts degree holders pursuing graduate studies in accounting. These awards are intended to encourage liberal arts undergraduates to consider professional accounting careers.

Criminal Justice John Dennis Scholarship The Missouri Sheriff's Association offers the John Dennis Scholarship to Missouri high school seniors planning to pursue a career in Criminal Justice.
Education Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation Scholarship The Missouri Retired Teacher Foundation offers scholarships to students officially enrolled in Teacher Education Programs or to Teachers actively employed in Missouri Public Schools seeking additional certification.

ISA Educational Foundation Scholarships ISA Educational Foundation Scholarships are awarded to college or university students who demonstrate outstanding potential for long-range contribution to the fields of automation and control. KYTV Scholarship

Each year KYTV in Springfield, MO awards a $1000 scholarship to two deserving students planning to pursue degrees in broadcasting-related courses. This includes students working on degrees not only in broadcasting, but in accounting, marketing, communications, engineering, journalism and mass media, all of which you would find working at any broadcast company.

The Alumnae Panhellenic Association of Greater Kansas City offers grants and loans to Female students in their senior year of College or in graduate school. Must be a Greater Kansas City Resident.

Minority Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Education Scholarship Program

The Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Education Scholarship Program (EESP) is designed to provide scholarships to minority and other underrepresented students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an environmental course of study.

Minority Edbesendowen Scholarship Program Edbesendowen is a Potawatomi word that means “Humility.” The spirit of this scholarship is the recognition of the importance of being humble and knowing that we are no more than the next. The The Gates Millennium Scholars is funded by  a grant from Bill & Mellinda Gates.

Minority The “Ghigau Scholarship” The “Ghigau Scholarship” is an annual scholarship program that awards 1 $500.00 scholarship to a Cherokee student attending a college or university in the United States, Canada, or other Indigenous community.
The scholarship is given in honor of the Cherokee Tribe and to celebrate the family of Dr. Lisa Byers and her children, Brady and Halle (all Cherokee tribal members). The scholarship is also a way of supporting the education and capacity-building of the Cherokee student population.

Minority The “Keepers of the Fire Scholarship” The “Keepers of the Fire Scholarship” is an annual scholarship program that awards 3 $500.00 scholarships to American Indian (Indigenous) students attending a college or university in the United States, Canada, and around the world. The scholarships are given in honor of my parents, Philip L. and Esther J. Niles. My father, Philip Niles, was an enrolled tribal member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma (descended from the Fox family clan) and dedicated his professional life to helping many American Indian tribes throughout the United States through his employment with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The Glenn Miller Birthplace Society is offering six scholarships, $3000, $2000 & $1000 to both instrumentalists and vocalists.  These scholarships, which are awarded without regard to any other award, may be used for any education-related expense.

The BPW Foundation established the Career Advancement Scholarship Program in 1969 to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged women seeking to further their education. Scholarships are provided to women who wish to advance in their careers, or are soon to enter or re-enter the workforce. The Foundation has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships, grants, and loans to over 8,000 women seeking to improve their lives.

Study Abroad Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship

Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide a flat grant of US$23,000 or its equivalent for one academic year of study in another country. This award is intended to help defray costs associated with round-trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies. Academic-Year Scholarships are the most common type of scholarship offered.
