Academic Internship Program
Western Department Aid Program
These are work experience assignments directly related to the student's academic major. Under this program a student is assigned to an administrative office with a requirement to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year. Students will be paid $500 per month. Students should secure the approval of the prospective department or office prior to application.
Application Procedures: Although financial need is not a consideration for this scholarship, applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any requested documents to the Office of Financial Aid. Apply in Academic Department.

Alumni Association Scholarship

Western Alumni Association
MWSU Alumni Association provides scholarships from the annual fund to help cover the costs of tuition, books, and other education expenses. Alumni Association scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit (requiring a minimum 3.5 GPA) or on a combination of need and merit (requiring a minimum 3.0 GPA). Preference is given to students who have completed at least one semester of college.

Andrews-Whitaker Memorial Scholarship

Federal Program
This congressionally funded program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education. These scholarships will make it possible for students with limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities worldwide.

Bob Berger Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Bob Berger, Director of Financial Aid from 1970 to 2002 by friends and family. Recipients of this scholarship should be a junior or senior majoring in Education, Nursing, or Wildlife Biology with a minimum GPA of 2.8. Financial need will be a consideration. Burger King Scholarship
Western Foundation
Applicants must have worked 28 hours per week or more for 18 consecutive months at Burger King. A 2.5 GPA or better must be maintained to remain eligible for this scholarship.

Center for Academic Support Scholarship
Western Aid Program
Scholarships are available to students for assistance in operating programs in the Center. Students will be selected based upon their academic standing, ability to relate well to peers, and willingness to learn tutoring methods and record-keeping procedures.

Constance Fauntleroy Runcie Scholarship Fund

This award was established by the Runcie Club of St. Joseph, MO. One scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed 60 hours and majoring in the Arts, Humanities, Science, Computer (not Math), or Education. To be eligible the student must carry a GPA of 3.5 in major courses and a 3.0 overall. Financial need shall be a consideration.

DESOTO McCabe Memorial Scholarship

The DESOTO McCabe Memorial Scholarship has been established to fund one scholarship to a student who demonstrates financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a graduate from the St. Joseph, Missouri School District, (all other things being equal, preferably a graduate of Lafayette High School), and is reasonably capable of completing college-level work to a baccalaureate degree.

The Dubach Scholarship will be awarded to an individual with a planned career goal in Christian ministry (including sacred music), nursing, or special education. The recipient(s) shall have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0. Elliott Goldman and Libbie Loraine Goldman Scholarship

This endowed scholarship fund, established in 1980 by Elliott Goldman and his sister Libbie Loraine Goldman in memory of their parents, Dora and Ruben Goldman, and of their brothers, Dr. Nathan L. Goldman and Abe Goldman, is to be available annually to students who demonstrate leadership abilities, academic excellence, and financial need. Each scholarship will be in the amount of current annual in-state tuition and fees. Recipients must be full-time residents of Buchanan County and full-time students. All students may apply. However, preference will be given to junior and senior students who plan to apply for admission to law school and students majoring in art or business administration.

Florence Smith / Association of College Women Scholarship

Frank R. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund

Frank R. Smith served as director of public relations and of publications from 1967 to 1979. In his memory, a scholarship fund has been established to provide assistance to students based on satisfactory scholarship standing and their demonstrated need. Preference will be given to students with an interest in communication and journalism; however, the scholarships will not be limited to these academic fields and may include athletics.

Western Aid Program
This is an interest free loan fund for eligible students intended to help meet unusual expenses. It is hoped that the student will pay the loan back as soon as possible so other students may be helped.

Institutional Loans
Western Aid Program
The university has various student loan funds available to enrolled students. These funds are used to loan worthy and needy individuals the money necessary for emergency needs. The interest charged for the use of these funds is minimal. Liberal repayment schedules are available; however, the loan is a short-term emergency loan and must be paid back the same semester.

Jack and Frieda Zurow Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to Junior or Senior students majoring in a service field including but not limited to the following majors: Nursing, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Education, Criminal Justice. James W. Supple Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of James W. Supple, a member of the MWSU Foundation Board of Directors and international representative of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. John Sublett Logan Business Undergraduate Scholarship

The John Sublett Logan Business Undergraduate Scholarship provides assistance to full-time, junior and senior students who intend to pursue graduate degrees in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Legal Studies. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 60 hours, have a minimum GPA of 3.20, earned a composite ACT of 23 or above, participate in community service, be a declared major in Business, Legal Studies, Accounting, or Economics, and reside in Buchanan, Platte, Andrew, Clay, or Clinton county in Missouri.

Pete O. Reiplinger Memorial Scholarship

Pete O. Reiplinger, 1934 Alumnus of the St. Joseph Junior College, provided an estate gift to the Missouri Western State University Foundation. Pete and his wife Myrtle lived in St. Joseph and his father, Oliver Reiplinger, served as a member of the St. Joseph Fire Department. It was Mr. Reiplinger's wish that these funds be used for scholarships with special consideration given to children of the St. Joseph Fire Department.

Recreation Services
Western Department Aid Program
Scholarships are available to students for assisting in the operation of the university's intramural program. Students will be selected based upon previous intramural and recreational experience, previous leadership positions, ability to relate to philosophy in intramural programs, and participants and recommendations from references.

Robert W. & Barbara J. Keener Scholarship

Created to assist deserving students who want to continue their education but need financial assistance. Two letters of reference and transcript required. Students may renew the scholarship if they maintain a "C" average in all subjects and enroll in a minimum of 14 hours per semester.

Rotary Scholarship

One scholar granted opportunity for a full academic year's study abroad - all expenses paid. As "Ambassador of Goodwill", Rotary scholar is expected to speak in the host country as well as local clubs upon their return home. All disciplines, senior or recent graduate. GPA 3.0 or higher.

Support-to-Students (STS) Scholarship Program

The STS Program offers scholarships to currently enrolled students, both half-time and full-time, who have completed a minimum of 29 hours with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and who are not currently receiving the Golden Griffon, President's, Regents', Deans', Community College Transfer, or G.E.D. scholarships.

The Taco John's Scholarship

Taco John's has established a scholarship program for its employees with financial need desiring a degree from MWSU. Scholarship amounts will depend upon in-state fees and hours worked per week. A 2.0 GPA will be required for the scholarship.

Western Frontier Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students that are not residents of Missouri who score a minimum composite of 23 on the ACT. The award cannot be combined with the Midwest Student Exchange Program or the Neighboring States Scholarship. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $1,500 per year. The student must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. Priority Deadline: March 1st

Western Public Service Internship Award

These awards are granted to Western students participating in a public service internship. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will pay up to 12 hours tuition (dependent upon the other institutional financial aid the student is receiving). If relocation is required, a stipend valued at up to $700 per month (maximum 5 months) is provided to assist with living expenses.
