Federal Program Qualified nursing students may compete for limited 2 and 3 year scholarships, enroute to a challenging and rewarding career as an Army Nurse. Army ROTC scholarships provide full tuition as well as a book allowance. Additionally, all ROTC scholarship students receive a graduated stipend for personal expenses. Applicants should be at least juniors majoring in nursing with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and have demonstrated financial need. Esson, this scholarship will be awarded to two junior and two senior students pursuing a degree in a liberal arts field or nursing. Awardees must have a 3.2 GPA. Miller Nursing Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Western Foundation Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student and accepted into the MWSU Nursing Program and have declared Nursing as his/her major. Preference given to those candidates with special interest in Geriatrics or Pulmonary illnesses. Candidates shall have been deemed by the selection committee to be facing unusual hardship. Contact Information: Nursing Department, 816/271-4415 Heartland Educational Loan Program Private Donor This is a loan program established for junior and senior level students at MWSU to provide the cost of two years of tuition and books in exchange for the student's agreement to work two years following graduation for the Heartland Health System. The program is designed to provide support to five juniors for their junior and senior year for tuition and books. This is estimated at $2,200 per year per person since tuition is projected to be $1,900 and $300 is necessary for books. The first year cost of the program is estimated to be $7,500; the second year and all subsequent years, costs will be $15,000, with adjustments for inflation. Loan applications for this program will be submitted to the Heartland Health System for approval. The agreement to work for Heartland Health System will be at a salary and benefit level commensurate with the experience and position obtained. Bauman Nursing Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Western Department Aid Program Awarded to a Junior or Senior Nursing major with a 2.5 GPA who is not able to get any other financial aid. Latosi Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of Gertrude F. Latosi, a registered nurse for 41 years, known for her compassionate care of patients. Recipients must be entering their 3rd semester of the nursing program and have earned a 3.5 GPA based on nursing courses taken during their first semester in the program. Three reference letters are required. Financial need is NOT a consideration. Contact Information: Nursing Department, 816/271-4415 Mary Alice Hartigan Scholarship Deadline, Wednesday, October 12, 2005 The Mary Alice Hartigan Scholarship for Nursing provides financial support to individuals for health care education in the field of Nursing and/or surgical services, with an emphasis on surgical nursing. Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria: Minimum enrollment of 12 hours of study for a regular semester or equivalent of full-time status in an accredited/approved nursing or surgical services program; Maintain a reasonably good GPA and meet the acceptable academic standards of the institution in which enrolled; Indicate prior and/or current service to humanity or health care; Demonstrate financial need; Provide references and recommendations. Marsha Cooper Nursing Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Western Department Aid Program Established in memory of Marsha Cooper, a former member of the faculty in the Department of Nursing. Contact Information: Nursing Department, 816/271-4415 Missouri Methodist Nursing Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Western Alumni Association The Missouri Methodist Nursing scholarship was endowed in 1986 to honor the memory of the 1942 graduating class of the Missouri Methodist Hospital. Through the efforts of Peggy Cravens Iffert and class members, nurses, friends, local physicians and friends of Missouri Western State University, the endowment has been successful in awarding two scholarships to worthy students each year. Students interested in this scholarship must have completed at least 30 semester hours of college work with a 3. 0 GPA and be an associate degree nurse or an RN wishing to acquire a baccalaureate degree. The amount of the loan award, up to $5,000, will be determined by the educational costs and personal financial information provided by the applicant. This scholarship was established to provide assistance to students with a demonstrated financial need and interest in pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing as full time students. Preference will be given to three year diploma school graduate RN or candidates with a two year associate degree or candidates who have satisfactorily completed a minimum of 30 semester hours of college work with a 3.5 or better GPA. Kiekhaefer, M.D. Health Care Career Scholarship-Nursing Deadline: March 1st Western Department Aid Program Established by family and friends in memory of Dr. Theodore C. Kiekhaefer. Dr. Kiekhaefer was the founder of the MedClinic of St. Joseph and Savannah. He created many jobs in health care and mentored many young people aspiring to make a career of helping others. Student(s) should be interested in, and progressing toward a medically related field such as medicine, nursing, x-ray technology, etc., shall have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and may be undergraduate or graduate. The criteria for receiving this scholarship will be the following: A minimum of 12 college credits completed, including one lab science; a minimum of 3.0 cumulative grade point average; a statement of interest in professional nursing; a statement of reason for scholarship application; and a statement of prior awards and current scholarships. Contact Information: Nursing Department, 816/271-4415 Western Excellence Awards - Nursing Deadline: Priority March 1st Western Department Aid Program The Department of Nursing will award 1 scholarship to an incoming freshman who has earned a minimum ACT of 24, is in the top 20% of his/her high school class, and has earned an minimum GPA of 3.20. Currently enrolled Nursing students must have met the established criteria for early acceptance into the Nursing Program. HIT students must have completed 15 credit hours (including 1 laboratory science) and possess a minimum GPA of 3.20 to be considered for the award.
