Students must maintain at least a GPA of 2.0 and must be majoring in or have a strong interest in Music. A designated selection committee will choose the recipient. Applicant must be a member in good standing of CMENC and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students will be required to furnish a short essay on personal philosophy of music education. Applicant will be chosen by the music education faculty, a student representative member of MCENC, and the department chairperson based on the criteria above. Recipients shall have a minimum classification of sophomore and a cumulative GPA of 2.5, be a declared Music major, enrolled in voice lessons and demonstrate financial need. A GPA of 2.75 with a 3.0 in music must be maintained to continue to receive the scholarship. Application Procedures: Complete the Music Department Scholarship Application. There are minimum audition requirements for each category. Incoming freshmen and transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Incoming freshmen and transfer students must have a GPA of at least 2.5. Students applying for renewal must have successfully completed 12 credit hours the previous semester with a GPA of 2.5. Contact Information: Music Department, 816/271-4420 Raymond Elliott Choral Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Western Department Aid Program The scholarship was established by Raymond Elliott, former choral director at the St. Joseph Junior College. His choirs performed for the St. Joseph community and brought a note of gladness during the great depression of the thirties and the war years of the forties. Applicants shall have a 3.0 GPA, participate in a choral group; preference will be given to a vocal major. Application Procedures: Complete the Music Department Scholarship Application. Ferguson Scholarship Deadline: March 1st Western Department Aid Program This scholarship shall be available annually, on the basis of merit in performance, to incoming student woodwind players. The scholarship shall pay for the applied music fees for as long as the recipient remains at MWSU, subject to annual review by appropriate instrumental instructors and juries. An audition and letter of recommendation from a vocal instructor are required. The scholarship may be renewed the second semester if the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credit hours during their first semester and earns a GPA of 3.0 or above.
