Alfred Laurent Scholarship

Anne Marie Schmitz Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Friends and family have established this scholarship in memory of Anne Marie Schmitz.  Students must maintain at least a GPA of 2.0 and must be majoring in or have a strong interest in Music.  A designated selection committee will choose the recipient.  Financial need shall be a consideration.

CMENC Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Awarded to a junior or senior music major with involvement in the music department.  Applicant must be a member in good standing of CMENC and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Students will be required to furnish a short essay on personal philosophy of music education.  Applicant will be chosen by the music education faculty, a student representative member of MCENC, and the department chairperson based on the criteria above.

Application Procedures:  Complete the Music Department Scholarship Application. Short essay on personal philosophy of Music Education required and should be submitted to the Department of Music. Must also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any requested documents to the Office of Financial Aid.

Gladys and Joe Friedman Voice Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

This is an endowed scholarship in honor of Joe and Gladys Friedman.  Recipients shall have a minimum classification of sophomore and a cumulative GPA of 2.5, be a declared Music major, enrolled in voice lessons and demonstrate financial need.

Helen Trapp Piano Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

The Helen Trapp Piano Scholarship was established as a memorial to Helen Trapp by her sons, George and Edward Trapp.  Applicants shall be a declared music major with a performance emphasis in piano.  A GPA of 2.75 with a 3.0 in music must be maintained to continue to receive the scholarship.

Music Department

Deadline: Priority March 1st

Scholarships are available to music students for solo performance, ensemble performance or accompanying.  There are minimum audition requirements for each category.  Incoming freshmen and transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students applying for renewal of this scholarship must have successfully completed 12 credit hours with a GPA of 2.5

Music Department - Marching Band

Music Department - Special Performance (Band)

Special performance scholarships are available to band students based upon auditions and musical skills.  Incoming freshmen and transfer students must have a GPA of at least 2.5.  Students applying for renewal must have successfully completed 12 credit hours the previous semester with a GPA of 2.5.

Raymond Elliott Choral Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

The scholarship was established by Raymond Elliott, former choral director at the St. Joseph Junior College.  His choirs performed for the St. Joseph community and brought a note of gladness during the great depression of the thirties and the war years of the forties.  Applicants shall have a 3.0 GPA, participate in a choral group; preference will be given to a vocal major.

Robert C. Ferguson Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

This scholarship shall be available annually, on the basis of merit in performance, to incoming student woodwind players.  The scholarship shall pay for the applied music fees for as long as the recipient remains at MWSU, subject to annual review by appropriate instrumental instructors and juries.  Students shall be selected by the Music department faculty.

Roberta and Louis Riemer Strings Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Roberta and Louis Riemer Strings Scholarship provides participation grants in string performance for MWSU students playing in the Missouri Western State University Orchestra, as well as studying privately.  Applicants must audition for conductor.

Rogers Percussion Scholarship

Established by Dennis and Susan Rogers for students majoring in percussion.  Applicants should have 3.0 GPA and will be interviewed.

St. Joseph Community Chorus Scholarship

Established by the St. Joseph Community Chorus for music majors.  Student must be a junior or senior majoring in Music with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrated financial need.

Western Excellence Awards - Music

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Two Western Excellence Scholarships in the amount of $750 per semester are available to freshman vocal music majors who have achieved a 22 ACT and demonstrate vocal music ability.  An audition and letter of recommendation from a vocal instructor are required.  The scholarship may be renewed the second semester if the recipient completes a minimum of 12 credit hours during their first semester and earns a GPA of 3.0 or above.
