Bob Berger Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st
Western Foundation

Established in memory of Bob Berger, Director of Financial Aid from 1970 to 2001 by friends and family. Recipients of this scholarship should be a junior or senior majoring in Education, Nursing, or Wildlife Biology with a minimum GPA of 2.8. Financial need will be a consideration. Applicants should submit two professional (instructor and/or employer) references using the on-line reference letter request form.

Herbert E. Owens Biology Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Recipients must be declared Biology majors; have, and maintain, a minimum GPA of 3.00; and have a career interest in Botany and / or Conservation Biology.  This scholarship is awarded to a student with minimum 60 hours credit and progressing toward the requirements of the biology degree.

John Rushin and David Ashley Biology Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Established by Simon and Monya Rositzky in recognition of the service to the college by Dr. John Rushin and Dr. David Ashley.  The recipient of this scholarship must be a declared biology major with a minimum classification of a sophomore, and with a career interest in field biology. The recipient must have a minimum cumulative college grade-point average of 3.0. The eligible recipient must demonstrate financial need; with all other factors being equal, financial need may be the determining factor in the selection process.

Mike Sonnenmoser Biology Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

An endowment established by the family of Mike Sonnenmoser funds a scholarship available annually to a freshman student declaring biology as a major.  The scholarship is renewable for eight semesters upon maintaining a 3.0 GPA (both cumulative and in the major).  The student should rank in the upper 15% of their high school graduating class and have scored an ACT composite of 22 or above.

Monya Rositzky Life Science Teaching Scholarship

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

This scholarship was established in honor of Monya Rositzky a longtime supporter of various programs that advance the intellectual development and professional skills of Missouri Western Students.  This scholarship is intended for a declared major in a Biology Department teaching program.  Minimum GPA of 3.0 (incoming Freshman must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 as well) and demonstrated financial need.

Science Scholarship Fund of MWSU

Deadline: March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Interest from this fund provides scholarships for students who have completed at least one semester successfully at MWSU and are interested in pursuing a pre-professional degree in science.  Financial need, scholastic ability, and commitment are also selection factors.

Western Excellence Awards   - Biology

Deadline: Priority March 1st

Western Department Aid Program

Incoming Freshman Award:  One, $1,000 Western Excellence Award will be available to an incoming Freshman with a minimum 3.5 high school GPA, top 15% of the graduating class, and minimum 24 ACT.  Incoming Freshman awarded this scholarship will be required to enroll in BIO105 and CHE111 and declare a major in the Biology Department during the first semester.  Successful completion of the first semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA will be required to maintain this scholarship during the second semester.

Continuing Student Awards:  Two, $1,000 Western Excellence Awards will be available to continuing students declaring a major in the Biology Department with a minimum 3.0 science GPA and demonstrated participation in departmental activities such as student organizations, research, etc.
