Athletic Scholarships                

Western Department Aid Program

The College offers a number of scholarships to students who are recruited to participate in athletics.  These athletic scholarships are awarded at the recommendation of the director of athletics and the appropriate head coach.  The scholarship is a waiver of all or part of costs incurred.  One year limit. May be renewed.  Student athletes must meet NCAA and Western eligibility requirements.

Chris Faros Scholarship            

Western Department Aid Program

A scholarship will be awarded to a senior football player at the beginning of his last academic year.  The recipient must be the senior who has the most excellent performance, academically and athletically, for Missouri Western State University based upon the following considerations:  Cumulative GPA; Athletic performance per potential; Qualities - desire, dedication, leadership, commitment, humility, personal discipline, industry, character and courage; Professional promise in chosen field of interest.

Francis and Marceline Davis

Deadline:  March 1st

Western Foundation

This award is an alternating annual athletic and English scholarship awarded to declared English major or minors or a student athlete. Recipients must have completed at least 24 hours of coursework at Western, earned a GPA of 2.5 or above, and demonstrate financial need.

John J. Little Memorial Athletic Scholarship               

Western Department Aid Program

This scholarship was established by friends and family of John J. Little, an employee and an Alumnus of Missouri Western State University.  Eligible applicants must be a Senior or a fifth year student and participate in a Men's or Women's Basketball Program.  The applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.5. The recipient will be selected by a designated committee.  Financial need will be a consideration.  Two references are required.  May be given for summer classes.

Kiwanis / Bob Schiesl Memorial Scholarship              

Western Department Aid Program

Established by the St. Joseph Kiwanis Club in honor of Bob Schiesl who loved baseball and young people.  Recipient must be on baseball team with an interest in History, have 2.7 GPA, and be from Missouri, preference will be given to a St. Joseph Area Hometown Kid.

Koenig Family Scholarship in Memory of Sydney Koenig

Western Department Aid Program

This scholarship is awarded to full-time sophomore or junior student athletes majoring in a business field.  First preference, as an athlete, is given to football players and first preference in major is Finance, then Economics, then General Business.  Two references are required.  Financial need will be the determining factor when applicants are otherwise qualified.  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify.

Max W. and Emma Lee Grooms Memorial Scholarship               

Western Department Aid Program

This scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete who has financial need and has shown satisfactory academic progress.  Preference will be given to a fifth year athlete.

Missouri Golf Association Scholarship              

Western Department Aid Program

Golf Student Athlete from the State of Missouri.

Pat Simmons Memorial Men's Basketball Scholarship               

Western Department Aid Program

To be awarded to a men's basketball player who has completed his athletic eligibility and needs a fifth year of study to receive his degree.

Thomas Thies Baseball Scholarship                 

Western Department Aid Program

This endowed scholarship is available to a student who demonstrates participation and leadership in baseball, has a solid academic performance of a 2.5 GPA, and exhibits no use of drugs or alcohol.  Financial need is a consideration.  Student must provide a recommendation from the athletic director, baseball coach, and faculty member.

Waldren Family Scholarship

Western Foundation

Deadline:  March 1st

The Waldren Family Scholarship given in memory of Joan Banks-Waldren. Must be a full-time student, preference given to student athlete (preferably a football player) majoring in Business, Accounting or Finance. If no student athletes qualify, then preference shall be given to a student majoring in Business, Accounting or Finance. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and 2.5 to maintain for second semester. Preference also given to student from KC metropolitan area with special
preference given to graduates from Hickman Mills or Grandview High Schools. Financial need shall be the determining factor among qualified candidates. Candidate must submit a minimum of 2 references.

Warren L Riepen Golf Scholarship             

Western Department Aid Program

Established by friends and family in memory of Warren L. Riepen.  Mr. Riepen was a golf professional and was a great supporter of the Missouri Western Golf Team.  Student must be a member of the golf team with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
