Golden Griffon Scholarship (Effective 2008-09)

Western Aid Program
This award provides outstanding incoming freshmen with a four-year renewable scholarship valued at up to $10,000 per year. Requirements for the Golden Griffon candidacy include: a composite ACT score of 27 or above; ranking in the top 10% of their high school class or an overall GPA of 3.5 for all high school coursework; and evidence of involvement in extracurricular activities and community service. Applicants are required to submit two essays and complete a personal interview. Recipients must participate in the Honors Program, live in the residence halls, and maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA for renewal. The Golden Griffon Scholarship may not be used in conjunction with most other Western scholarships.

President's Academic Scholarship (Effective 2008-09)
Deadline: Priority March 1st
Western Aid Program
This scholarship is awarded annually to first-time students who have earned a minimum composite ACT of 25 and either rank in the top 15% of their high school graduating class or have an overall 3.25 GPA for all high school coursework. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $4,000 per year. The student must maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA for renewal. This scholarship may not be used in conjunction with other GOLD level scholarships.

Regents' Academic Scholarship (Effective 2008-09)

This scholarship is awarded annually to first-time students who have earned a minimum composite score of 23 on their ACT. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $2,000 per year. The student must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. This scholarship may not be used in conjunction with other GOLD scholarships.

G.E.D. Awards
Deadline: Priority March 1st
Western Aid Program
This scholarship is awarded annually to individuals who are entering college for the first time and score 2750 or higher on the General Education Development Test (GED) or a GED student who scores a composite score of 23 or higher on the ACT. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $1,500 per year if the student is enrolled in 12 hours or more. The award may be prorated for students enrolled between 6 and 12 hours. The award must be used in the students first twelve semesters. The student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. Students who scored a 285 or higher on the GED Test prior to 2002 are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship may not be used in conjunction with other GOLD scholarships.

Edith C. Brown Scholarship Program

This competitive scholarship is awarded annually to students who rank in the top 20 percent of their graduating high school class and who demonstrate a commitment to multicultural learning through community service. Awards will be based on a record of community service, personal interview, and letters of recommendation. Recipients must live in the residence halls, maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and participate in community service at Western. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $4,500 per year.

Dr. James Scanlon and Lauren Scanlon Service-Scholar Scholarship

This is a non-renewable award based on community service record, personal interview, and two letters of recommendation (one personal and one from a community service site). Award recipients must continue to participate in community service while at Western, and live in the residence halls. The award is valued at up to $1,000.

Western Achievement Awards
Western Aid Program
This non-renewable scholarship is awarded to winners of high school academic competitions sponsored by Missouri Western State University. The recipient must be accepted for admission to Western as a full-time, degree-seeking student. The award is worth an amount up to $1,000 per year.

Western Leadership Award

This non-renewable scholarship is awarded to first time students who have an outstanding academic record, evidence of involvement in extracurricular activities, student leadership and government activities, and involvement in a community service project. The award is worth an amount up to $1,500. Recipients of this award must live in the residence halls.

Chemathon Division Winner Scholarship
Western Department Aid Program
Scholarships are awarded to the three division winners of the Chemathon. The recipient must be accepted for admission to Western as a full-time, degree-seeking student. The awards are for one semester and are not renewable.

Western Excellence Awards

These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students who qualify according to departmental guidelines. Eligibility requirements and applications should be obtained and submitted to the department or office specified. The awards are worth an amount up to $1,500. At least one award in each department will be awarded to an incoming freshman student. Departments participating with Western Excellence Awards include: Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Communication Studies & Theatre, Computer Science, Mathematics, & Physics, Criminal Justice & Legal Studies, Economics, Education, Engineering Technology, English, Foreign Languages, & Journalism, Government, Social Work & Sociology, Health, Physical Education & Recreation, History, Philosophy & Geography, Music, Nursing & Psychology.

Midwest Student Exchange Program (Effective 2007-08)

Interstate Program
This program was established by the Midwestern Higher Education Commission to increase interstate educational opportunities for student of its member states. The program allows residents of Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin to enroll in specific designated programs at reduced tuition rates.

Western Frontier Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who are not residents of Missouri and score a minimum composite of 23 on the ACT. The award cannot be combined with the Midwest Student Exchange Program or the Neighboring States Scholarship. The scholarship is worth an amount up to $1,500 per year. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal.

Western Neighboring States Scholarship (Effective 2008-09)
Priority Deadline: March 1st
Western Aid Program
This scholarship is awarded annually to full-time students who are residents of Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, or Kansas that choose to live in Western’s residence halls. Eligible students must meet one of the following categories:
- First-time freshman must score an ACT composite of 21 or higher and have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0.
- Community College transfer students must have an associate’s degree and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Non-community college transfer students with less than 60 credit hours must have an ACT composite of 21 or higher and have a cumulative 3.0 college GPA.
- Non-community college transfer students with more than 60 credit hours must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Students receiving this award will be granted in-state tuition. Recipients must live in the residence halls and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for renewal. This award may not be combined with the Midwest Student Exchange Program or the Western Frontier Scholarship.

Alumni Family Scholarship

Western Alumni Association
Established for an incoming freshman child of a MWSU Alumni, 3.0 GPA, 2 reference letters required and financial need will be a consideration. Also students should be involved in four extra-curricular activities in their high school career.

Griffon Yearbook

Scholarships are available to incoming freshmen who have been editors of their high school yearbook or newspaper and choose to enroll in Jou 212, the Griffon Yearbook practicum. Students will be selected on the basis of their high school publication experience.

Goppert Scholarship

The Goppert Scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student in good standing.
Preference will be given to applicants with primary residence in Lathrop, Missouri or Norborne, Missouri. Financial need shall be the determining factor among qualified applicants.

Lisa & Tim Bingamen Memorial Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is available to freshmen students demonstrating need with an interest in business or marketing. Candidates for these awards must be in the top 25% of their high school class and be residents of Buchanan County.

Mike Sonnenmoser Biology Scholarship

An endowment established by the family of Mike Sonnenmoser funds a scholarship available annually to a freshman student declaring biology as a major. The scholarship is renewable for eight semesters upon maintaining a 3.0 GPA (both cumulative and in the major). The student should rank in the upper 15% of their high school graduating class and have scored an ACT composite of 22 or above.

Missouri Boy's State Scholarship

Five non-renewable scholarships in the amount of $1000 will be offered to first-time freshmen who were citizens of the previous academic year at Missouri Boys State and are enrolled as full-time students.

Missouri Girl's State Scholarship

National Guard Scholarship

Missouri Western will make a one-time, $100 scholarship available to guard students who are entering for the first time. Recipients must be enrolled as degree-seeking students.

Rod W. Fletcher Fund

Candidates should be majoring in communications, including communication studies, public relations, English and journalism. Wayne Miller Scholarship

The Wayne Miller Scholarship has been established for the purpose of enabling area students to attend Missouri Western State University. Students will be awarded up to $2,500 per academic year to be used toward in-state tuition college expenses. Recipients will be selected from all eligible applicants from all Missouri high schools located in the counties of Andrew, Buchanan and DeKalb. Recipients of the scholarship will show demonstrated financial need, be a Business or Music major, and for as long as may be practical, be first generation college students. The scholarships may be renewed based on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.
