America Reads! is a federal work-study program which is part of a nationwide effort to improve the reading skills of elementary students.
Key Components of America Reads!
- You must qualify for the Federal Work-study program at Western.
- You must have the desire to work with children.
- You must have your own transportation.
- You must complete an application form.
- You must attend the required paid training sessions.
- You will be tutoring elementary school students to help improve their reading skills.
Benefits of Becoming an America Reads! Tutor
- Giving the gift of reading.
- Serving the community by helping a child(ren) in need.
- List participation in one of Former President Clinton's programs on your resume.
- Earn one paid credit hour for participating in the training course.
- Earn $6.00 per hour while serving as a reading tutor.
- Qualify for the Hayes-Bagnall Literacy Scholarship for excellence in literacy service.
