Reasons Not to Go Greek

I am worried my GPA will drop:

Both fraternities and sororities have programs designed to promote scholarship that match older members with newer members to help tutor them. The Greek Community also has a minimum GPA that each new member must meet before they can join, and must maintain after they are initiated. As a result, many Greek's GPA's rise after joining a fraternity or sorority.

I can barely afford college, much less dues each semester:

Again, this is a common misunderstanding. Each chapter has to pay a certain amount of insurance money each year to their National Headquarters. Some of the money paid by members goes to Homecoming events such as the parade, making of the float, and supplies for all of the activities. As the parade is always extravagant, Greek organizations take pride in creating large, decorative floats. The rest of the money goes towards fun brotherhood/sisterhood events such as movies, comedy shows, dinners, road trips, t-shirts, etc...in other words, the money you pay in dues come back to you through events that the fraternities and sororities pay for.

I don't have the time:
Greek Life is not a lot of work. Some students get extremely involved in the Greek Councils and their chapter's leadership roles. This number of Greek constitutes an extremely small percentage of the total number of fraternity and sorority members. Most members go to the weekly meetings and then the many fun brotherhood/sisterhood events when and if they have the time. Going Greek is a fun and exciting thing to do, not more work. It is a chance to spend fun time in college away from class while still learning valuable life skills. It is not meant to stress you out even more. There is no pressure to do work in fraternities and sororities that will take away from schoolwork. After all, we are here for an education first.

I don't fit into the Greek stereotype I have seen in movies:
DON'T SWEAT IT!!! There are many organizations that will fit each person differently!!!! Movies do not portray Greeks correctly. Very few fraternities and sororities are like the ones you see in "Animal House" or "American Pie." As we have a lot of fun, we still are a very diverse group of people that come together to promote scholarship, leadership, community service, and brotherhood/sisterhood.
