Scholarship is an important dimension of the Greek Community at MWSU. Every chapter has a specially designed scholarship program for its members. These programs offer rewards for those who excel, but they also offer support for those who need to develop stronger study habits. The academic support that an individual can receive through the Greek Community includes: established study sessions, GPA requirements for membership and leadership opportunities, incentives and rewards, scholarships, tutoring, and mentoring programs. Scholarships are awarded both at the local and national level from the chapters.

- Community Service & Philanthropy
The Greek Community addresses the needs of the University and Western communities by sponsoring community service and philanthropic projects. Each chapter dedicates itself to worthy local causes and national philanthropies, donating their time and fundraising efforts to help others. Events such as park clean-ups, the Big Event, and Panhellenic Powder Puff game are events the Greek Community works together on as a whole.
Working together on such projects not only benefits worthy causes, but also fosters personal growth and greater unity among Greek members.
The social life in a chapter helps the college man and woman develop a sense of poise, personality, and other social graces, all of which will be useful later in life. The ability to function comfortably in a social environment will prove almost as important to you are your ability to do so in a work environment. Every year Greek chapters provide a wide variety of social events including formals, parent’s weekends, date functions, awards banquets, alumni dinners, sporting events, Greek Week, Homecoming, mixers, and intramurals.
The MWSU Greek community has taken great strides toward creating a responsible and safe environment for its members. Individual chapters provide regular educational programs and members participate in community-wide programs to address social issues such as binge drinking and healthy living.
- Greek Athletics and Intramurals
The opportunities for athletic involvement within the Greek Community are endless. Several chapters hold and participate in charity sports tournaments and inter-Greek sporting events. Many Greeks are members of Western Athletics, including soccer, cheerleading, dance, and football. Not only will you get a chance to participate in these events, but intramurals are also a large part of Greek Life. No matter what your athletic ability, throughout the year you will be able to participate in over thirty sports, ranging from football to foosball. The competition within the Greek community can be intense, regardless of the sport, yet competition remains fun and exciting!
