About Construction Engineering Technology
Western's two-year A.S. and four-year B.S. degree programs in Construction Engineering Technology are broad-based technical programs.

The two-year A.S. degree program has strong foundations in materials technology, surveying, CADD, construction estimating, and has an excellent blend of theory and practice of construction science.  It gives the student the required 12 credit hours in surveying to put the student on the path to sit for the land surveyors exam.

The four-year B.S. degree program has strong foundations in mathematics, computers, basic and engineering sciences, and has an excellent blend of theory and practice of construction discipline. Coursework in Planning and Scheduling, Construction Management, Financial Aspects of Engineering Projects, and Structures including wood, masonry, concrete and steel is required. In addition, the students are required to take courses in soils and foundations, and mechanical and electrical systems.

The curriculum for the two-year and four-year degree programs are designed to train students in the fundamentals of construction engineering technology principles via hands-on experimentation in a variety of laboratory settings, such as materials testing, manual and computerized estimating, oral and written presentations, and applied learning exercises.

Many two-year A.S. degree graduates go on  to finish the four-year B.S. degree. The four-year B.S. degree program in construction engineering technology is accredited by the  Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The B.S. degree programs in construction (in addition to electronics) at Missouri Western are the only programs in the State of Missouri at a public state-supported four-year institution that are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC of ABET).

The program educational objectives of BS CET graduates are:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to produce and utilize design, construction, and operations documents related to building and/or heavy construction industry.
  2. Function effectively in a group environment in the workplace through demonstration of technical and communication skills.
  3. Understand professional, ethical, and social responsibilities.
  4. Show respect for diversity and knowledge of contemporary professional, societal and global issues.
  5. Demonstrate a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
  6. Continue professional development through life-long learning.
