The State of Missouri and Missouri Western require that teacher education students complete the following tests with a satisfactory score:

The C-BASE [College Base] is an exam that measures basic skills and knowledge in the following areas:  English, writing, science, math and social studies.  A "pass" score on this test currently is 235 points.  Each of the sections must be "passed" in order to have the C-BASE accepted.

A person who does not pass all five parts of the C-BASE does not need to repeat the entire test on the next testing---just those sections with a low score.  All five parts of the C-BASE must be passed within a two year period.

Normally it will be four to six weeks before the C-BASE scores are returned to the student.  To be eligible for admission into teacher education classes beyond SED/EED 203,  a student must be admitted to teacher education which requires a "pass"  all the required tests.  Because of the time gap between when the C-BASE is taken and the availability of the tests, a student should take the C-BASE at least two semesters prior to the anticipated date for requesting admission to the teacher education program.

The ACT is a national placement test.  The "residual ACT" is the same ACT as the national ACT.  The Residual ACT score can only be used at MWSU, i.e. it CAN NOT transfer to another school. 

The score on the ACT residual will be available to the student within three days of the completion of  the test.  Scores on the national ACT will be available several weeks after the testing.

The required ACT score to enter the MWSU Department of Education is a 22 composite.  [If the ACT was taken prior to 1989 a score of 21 is satisfactory.]

Note:  an ACT score below 22 is acceptable if a person obtains a score of 265 on all five parts of the above mentioned C-BASE.

Completion with a satisfactory score of the PRAXIS II in the student's major is required for teacher certification in the State of Missouri and is a pre-requisite for entry into Phase IV of the Western teacher education program, i.e. Student Teaching.

Information about the exam will be distributed during the semester that the student is enrolled in Phase III or Experience in Teaching.

Each major will take a different test and will have a different pass score.
