SUMMER RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The Summer Research Institute (SRI) is a program that brings together current Western students with incoming freshmen and/or current high school seniors, to conduct research during the summer with a Western professor on a topic in the professor's field of expertise.  The purpose of the program is to enhance the educational experience of Western's students by applying the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to an important research question under the individualized direction of a faculty member.  It is also an opportunity to provide incoming and potential Western students an introduction to the resources the campus has to offer.  The program is in its fourth year of operation and is directed by Dr. Ben Caldwell, a faculty member in the Chemistry Department.
