OVERVIEW

The main goal of this course is to provide a laboratory setting where students have opportunities to learn practices and procedures for producing CD-ROM and other multimedia publications. In addition to learning new technology and new media criteria, students will practice and further develop skills that they have acquired in other courses or from practical experience.

Unlike many of the other courses with which students are involved, the work they do for the CD publication is not a private, personal experience shared only with the teacher and fellow classmates. Publication and distribution a CD publication displays individual and group efforts widely.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

Understand the basics of a CD publication, including its purpose, content, and audiences.

Acquire and prepare print, audio, video, and other graphic materials for the CD publication.

Participate in the broad range of activities required to produce and to publish the CD.

Effectively complete the responsibilities of their roles in production and publication, as determined by the professor.

ASSIGNMENTS, GRADES

The content of your personal interactive CD product can take one of several forms:

The two main assignments for the semester are 1) the Project Plan, worth 100 points, and 2) the interactive CD-ROM (Director movie and supporting materials), worth 500 points.

At least three other assignments will be completed: Practice Movie One, Practice Movie Two, and Practice Movie Three. These will be graded credit/-50 points penalty.

All students will complete a final self-evaluation during the last two weeks of the semester in which they will review their efforts for the semester and discuss extenuating circumstances, if any. Failure to submit evaluation materials will result in a grade of "Incomplete."

ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to attend all lab sessions, including scheduled office conferences. More than three absences will lower students’ final grade by one level. Students may request consideration be given to extenuating circumstances behind absences.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Students are expected to complete their own work for this lab; failure to do so may result in a lowered or failing semester grade.

HANDICAPPED POLICY

Students who are handicapped, whether it is evident or not, are encouraged to meet with the professor outside of lab to discuss whatever special needs they may have.
