Course Objectives:

By the end of this course the student should be able to do the following:

To do this students will:

Note:  Instructions for both papers and the exam will be distributed and discussed in class, well before the due date.

Class participation:

You will note that there is no “grade” for class participation.  Class participation, like virtue, is its own reward.  Being active in class assures me that you understand the methodology we are discussing.  If you don’t understand, please come see me.

Attendance policy:

Because we meet only one night per week, attendance is crucial.  Because we’re all human, I know that illnesses or children’s illnesses can come up.  That said, I will excuse one absence for illness or immediate family emergency.  After that, I will excuse absences at my discretion, and more than one could result in your failing the class.

Student Disability:

Students with disabilities (impaired hearing, vision, reading disorders, etc.) should notify me in writing of the disability before the end of the first week of class.  In consultation with the Center for Academic Support, I will work out a course of study for such students.

Grading policy:

The grading scale is as follows:

100-90%  =  A

80-89%    =  B

70-79%    =  C

60-69%    =  D

50-0%      =  F

Late paper policy:

Again, I need to be very stringent about late papers, as we only have thirteen class meetings.  I will accept a late assignment until 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning following our class meeting on Monday.  If I come in to teach on Wednesday morning and your assignment isn’t in my mailbox, you will receive a zero.

Tentative Class Assignment Schedule:

N.B.  Please remember that this is a TENTATIVE schedule.  We may need to adjust due dates or assignment dates as the semester progresses.
