A = 90-100% Your final course grade will be determined according to the following percentages: Essay #1 = 15% * You must complete and turn in all 4 essays and the final exam in order to pass the class.
Policies Attendance—Due to the interactive nature of the class and due to the fact that we cover a week's work in one class period, attendance is necessary for keeping up with the course work. You are expected to call me in advance if you will be missing a class, and you are expected to send your assignments, to be in my hands at the beginning of the class period, and to obtain class notes and handouts from other class members. Quizzes may not be made up after the class has taken the quiz, and a zero will be assigned for any missed quiz. If you miss more than two class periods, you should drop the class because you will be subject to failure. Due Dates—All assignments, unless otherwise instructed, are due at the beginning of class. No late homework, quizzes or tests will be accepted, and quizzes/tests may not be made up should you not be in class for its duration. Late essays and late journal submissions will result in a lower grade: 1 grade lower per day late. All four essays must be completed and turned in (and you must complete the final exam), however, in order to pass the class. Any paper that is to be accepted must be brought to my home and placed in my hands unless another alternative is arranged in advance. You are welcome to revise your essays. If you choose to revise, your officially recorded grade will be the average of the original and the revised grades. No work will be accepted after December 1. Office hours—Although I have no regularly scheduled office hours, I am happy and willing to arrange meetings outside of class with you. You may speak with me before or after any class period to arrange a meeting or call me at home between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. We may be able to solve your concerns over the phone, or we may need to schedule a meeting. When you have questions, you should speak with me at the earliest possible time. Do not wait until it is too late to finish an assignment on time before contacting me. Paper Format—All papers must be word processed, using the following the formatting guidelines (unless otherwise specified in class): 1) place title at top of page one; 2) double space text; 3) use same font throughout-preferably 12 point Times; 4) include 1-inch margins on top, bottom, and sides of each page; 3) include page number and your name on each page. Plagiarism—Plagiarism will not be tolerated and could result in failing the assignment or the course. Refer to http://www.missouriwestern.edu/eflj/eng104.asp Portfolio—Keep a portfolio of all of your work for this class that you could submit should the need arise. Student Disability—Please inform me in writing during the first week of classes if you have a disability that could inhibit your success in this class as the class is currently set up.
