Foreign
Language Placement
Exam Schedule
Fall 2008
Foreign Language Placement Exams will be given at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. on each of the following dates during the Fall 2008 semester: November 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, and 21 in Murphy Hall 107.
Foreign
Language Placement
Exam will
be administered during
each semester and prior
to registration for
fall and spring semesters.
Contact the English,
Foreign Languages & Journalism
Department at 271-4310
for the next scheduled
exam.
Time: 20-30
Minutes. The
placement test is done
by computer. You do
not need to sign up
in advance or bring
any materials to the
test site.
The Foreign
Language Placement
Examination helps
us to determine your
placement in our foreign
language program at
Missouri Western State
College.
If you have studied
French, German, or Spanish
in high school or college,
and wish to receive credit,
or if you are unsure
which level of French,
German, or Spanish is
the best one for you
to continue your language
studies, take the free,
standardized placement
test offered in your
language. Depending on
your results, you may
be eligible for 3 to
12 hours of credit.
If you plan to enroll
in a foreign language
course, you should be
aware that one-two years
of a language in high
school is usually equivalent
to one semester in college.
If you have already enrolled
in a course according
to your background, you
may still wish to take
the placement test to
confirm that it is the
best class for you.
Effective Fall 2004,
students whose high
school transcripts
show three or more
years of French, German,
or Spanish (with grades
of C or better, and
within three years
of the semester in
question) should attempt
the placement exam
because they will not
receive credit should
they enroll in the
beginning French, Spanish,
or German course (FRE/GER/SPA
102).
The placement test is
offered free of charge.
You will receive your
results by email. Should
you decide to claim your
credit, you must file
a test out petition and
pay the test fee of $75.00.
Stop by SS/C 212 for
instructions on how to
claim credit.
However, if you enroll
in the course suggested
by the placement test
and complete that course
with a grade of C or
better, your test fee
will be refunded in full!
That means that you may
receive up to twelve
hours of free credit!
What do you save by
taking the placement
test? Time and money.
Rather than spend an
entire semester and tuition
dollars on material that
you already know, you'll
be able to build on your
language studies and
make the most of them.
Students who
receive credit for
FRE, GER or SPA 102
or higher can satisfy
the General Studies
Category 4 Humanities
requirement for foreign
language.
There is nothing to
lose and everything to
gain!
