Teaching Assistantships in English
Graduate students admitted to the MAA program in Written Communication are strongly encouraged to apply to work as Teaching Assistants with the EFLJ department. Teaching Assistantships will be awarded on a competitive basis. TAs will receive a full tuition remission and a stipend. Course assignments for TAs
The first semester of graduate study, the TA will teach one section of ENG104 from his or her own syllabus design. The TA will be mentored and observed in the classroom by the Director of Composition as well as another teaching mentor assigned to the TA. The TAs syllabus is constructed by the TA with the help of a teaching mentor. The second semester of graduate study (spring semester), the TA will have the option of teaching either two sections of ENG104 OR teaching one section of ENG104 and working in an administrative capacity in the Center for Academic Studies, Assistant Director of Composition, or Assistant Director of Developmental Writing. The third semester of graduate study (fall semester second year), the TA will teach two sections of ENG100 Developmental Writing. Prior to the beginning of their first fall semester, the TA will be required to engage in ENG100 training with the Director of Developmental Writing. During this second year of teaching, the TA will be mentored and observed by a faculty member in the department (primarily) and the Director of Composition. The fourth semester of graduate study (spring semester of the second year), the TA will teach one section of ENG108 College Writing and Research and EITHER one other section of a composition course of their preference OR work in an administrative capacity in the Center for Academic Studies, or as the Assistant Director of Composition, or Assistant Director of Developmental Writing.
