RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 addresses the rights and responsibilities of qualified disabled individuals such as the right to:

  • Equal opportunity to learn, work and receive reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments and/or auxiliary aids and services.
  • Receive services that may be needed for equal access to courses, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities offered by the College.
  • Be treated in the same manner as other students.
  • Privacy of information regarding the disability as applicable laws apply.
  • Report any grievances in a timely manner.

The College may not treat qualified individuals with a disability differently from individuals without disabilities or have a policy that disparately impacts individuals with disabilities. Missouri Western State University must provide access to its programs and services and provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with documented disabilities to allow them to effectively participate in those programs and services.

A qualified student with a disability is required to:

  • Identify him/herself as a person with a disability and request services from Disability Services (DS).
  • Provide sufficient documentation from an appropriate professional that describes the nature of the disability, how it limits participation in courses/programs, and suggested academic accommodations.
  • Inform DS coordinator about needed accommodations and assistance each term.
  • Notify DS of any changes in the registration schedule and/or needed services.
  • Request and use approved services in a responsible and timely manner.
  • If necessary, provide attendant care for personal needs while on campus.
  • Meet the same essential academic requirements as all other students on campus.
  • Follow the MWSU Student Code of Conduct.
  • Follow all program and MWSU policies and procedures.
