ACCOMMODATIONS

Disability Services works with each student on a case-by-case basis to determine and implement appropriate and reasonable accommodations.

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires an institution of higher education to provide reasonable accommodations to a qualified individual with a disability provided that accommodation does not create an undue hardship. Accommodations will not be made to course or degree requirements which are considered to be essential.

Reasonable accommodations may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Alternative format text and other educational materials

  • Sign Language Interpreters

  • Notetakers

  • Testing in a distraction free environment

  • Readers for exams

  • Extended time for testing

Services NOT provided by Disability Services:

  • Tutoring/individual instruction (available to all students in the Center for Academic Support in the Hearnes Center)

  • Personal aides or attendants

  • Modified classwork

  • Learning disability testing

  • Transportation services

These accommodations are not automatic. Each student must qualify for each accommodation..
