Chemathon is a regional chemistry and physics competition hosted annually by the Missouri Western State University Chemistry Department, the first competition being held in 1977. Chemathon generally draws between 450 and 600 students from regional high schools to compete in four academic divisions:
Division 1: General Chemistry I
Division 2: General Chemistry II
Division 3: Physics
Division 4: Dual Credit Chemistry
Students in each division compete in a series of events individually or as part of a team. Events include:

Activities Division 1 and 4 will particpate in a chemistry scavenger hunt. Each team will be provided with periodic table and element clues that will direct students around the campus to earn prizes. Divsion 2 will particpate in a laboratory based competition. Please bring goggles for all students in this category. Division 3 (Physics) will particpate in a vacuum cannon competition.
