Second Annual Women’s Summit

  The Power to Shape Your Future

Purpose:

This Summit will give the St. Joseph community and Missouri Western State University an opportunity to come together to discuss topics that are important to all of us.  The event is free and open to the Western campus and St. Joseph area communities. 

Registration:

February 19-March 7, 2008  -  Early registration*

March 8-March 21, 2008     -  Regular registration

March 22, 2008                 -  Limited late registration (at the door only)

*Register early to receive a complimentary Summit gift bag

816-271-4150 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

Summit topics include:

  • Positive Living,
  • Communicating with Confidence,
  • Priorities for Women,
  • Self Empowerment and
  • Global SisterHood 

Sessions and round table discussions will be led by Western alumni, staff/faculty and leaders from the St. Joseph community.

Missouri native Maxine Maxwell will present “Echoes of the Past & Voices of Hope”, a drama depicting and celebrating African American women during turning points in history. 

With concise narrative and subtle costume pieces setting the stage, Ms. Maxwell will bring to life remarkable and courageous women including activist Sojourner Truth, journalist Ida B. Wells, athlete Wilma Rudolph and aviator Bessie Coleman. 

This performance has been described by audience members as “moving, inspiring and very entertaining”, “incredible, mesmerizing and amazing.”

“Echoes of the Past” is also free, open to all and sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Education.
