As a parent, you are always looking out for
your student's safety. At Missouri Western State University, our
University Police Department takes
that same responsibility very seriously. They offer an array of services
to ensure the physical well being of your student. These services
include the following:
-
The University Police Department is the law
enforcement agency on campus.
Commissioned officers are on duty 24 hours per day, 365 days per year
and are charged with enforcing campus rules, St. Joseph City
Ordinances and Missouri State Statutes.
-
Three Police Department Vehicles
are used
to patrol the campus and enforce parking and driving regulations. Any
time the Police Department's dispatch is closed, phone calls
are forwarded directly to officers in the field for immediate
response.
-
First response to medical issues/accidents.
The Police Officers are trained in CPR/AED and maintain a
direct line of communication with the 911 dispatchers. When there is
an accident, injury, or illness on campus, these officers are
contacted first so they can provide immediate emergency attention
until EMS providers can arrive. Automated External Defibrillator are
maintained in police vehicles.
-
Operation ID
- The Police Department will, upon request of the student, document serial
numbers of your student's personal possessions that may be susceptible
to theft, such as laptops, i-pods, CD players, DVD players, etc.
through Operation ID. This ensures that, in the event of a theft, no
one else can claim that the item is theirs when questioned by the
Police Department.
-
There are nine emergency phones located
across campus. At the push of a
button, your student can be instantly connected to a Police
Officer.
-
Courtesy Patrol is available to escort
students, during certain hours,
from place to place around
campus. If your student feels unsafe on campus, they can request a
Courtesy Patrol Intern to escort them back to their residence hall, to
the library, or wherever their destination may be. These escorts carry
flashlights, wear bright orange vests, and carry two-way radios for
communication with the Public Safety Officers. They can also have a
Police Officer escort them if a Courtesy Patrol escort is not
available.
